I love my Wii!!!
So, after a hectic summer, I finally got around to modding up my Wii.
I have to say, I am beyond impressed. I'm not sure what I was doing running a media center PC at all, when the Wii can play every game rom I have, as well as all of my DVD based AVI movies and shows.
For those that have done this, how do you like your modded wii?
For those that haven't... do it... Check out WiiBrew.org

If you end up doing this mod, let me know.
I'll burn you a copy of my old school NES roms disc.... I've got a couple thousand roms on that DVD. lol.

Re: I love my Wii!!!
So after some reading let me get this straight.
So, once you have the mod, you don't update your wii via nintendo, you update it through the hack channel. Also, since I have the newest update from Nintendo, I need to use Banner Bomb V2 and install via SD card. Then once it's installed, I can backup the Wii and unbrick it later if needed?
Also, does this hack mode let me use the wii as a dvd player? sweet.

Re: I love my Wii!!!
Well, there are two parts to a softmod.
1) Installing the homebrew channel
2) Modding the firmware
Simply installing the homebrew channel will allow you to use emulators, dvdc mplayer ce and a whole whack of other stuff.
Modding the firmware, allows you to rip and play backed up copies of GC and Wii games, without the need for a modchip.
Here is a guide that helps cut down on the confusion;
